Highlights from Thrive 2017

Thanks to everyone who joined us to build positive mental health from October 31st to November 2nd, 2017! This year, Thrive Week was filled with sunshine, positivity, and community.

Some of the highlights included:

Thrive Kick-off

More than 3,000 people gathered to celebrate the start of Thrive 2017 at UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan. And, in Vancouver, they were rewarded with UBC’s delicious new Thriving snack (created by Sophie), free coffee, stress balls, great music, and answers to their wellness questions. In the Okanagan, students, faculty, and staff got a free healthy breakfast, wrote gratitude messages on rubber duckies, and much more. If you missed it this year, definitely make your way to a kick-off location next year!

Rain Graffiti

As part of the UBC SEEDS Sustainability program, 3rd year engineering student, Tiffany Quon, teamed up with staff at Community Development to bring an innovative rain graffiti project to campus. Rain grafitti uses water-repelling and eco-friendly paint that only appears when wet. Through her designs, Tiffany aims to brighten rainy days for students and passersby.

UBC Okanagan Gratitude Project

Expressing and feeling gratitude are good for your health. This year, UBCO took gratitude to new heights with a project to share gratitude across campus. Check out the video below to see what others are thankful for.

Pop-up Wellness Lounges

Staff, faculty, and students had a chance to unwind with free hot chocolate and coffee, crafts, puzzles, fireplace videos, and more at Thrive’s many Pop-up Wellness Lounges. They were a great way to rejuvenate and be reminded of the simple things that can help us feel better.

#LetsThriveUBC Social Media Challenge

UBC’s community unleashed its thriving spirit on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the 2017 #LetsThriveUBC Challenge — and the posts were inspirational. See the winning posts here.
